15,000 cases pertaining to CDGK being heard

KARACHI: At least 15,000 cases, linked to the different departments of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK), are being tried in different courts and majority of them are connected to the land and food departments, it is learnt.

There are about 3,000 cases pertaining to the land department which belong to the defunct KMC, KDA and the revenue department while some 5,000 cases are also pending in different courts related to the food department.

The trade licence cases from different towns are about 4,000 in number as now it has become a policy that no one can start a business in town without acquiring a trade licence. Some 200 cases, around Lyari Expressway related to illegal encroachment and property lease, were registered and now only 25 of them were pending, the sources disclosed. It is also learnt that the EDO legal department has hired 20 advocates who fight for the city government while 10 lawyers represent the CDGK in higher courts.
