ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has said that over 1.67 million people have verified their records from the voter lists of the Election Commission through mobile SMS.

In a statement on Friday, Nadra deputy chairman Tariq Malik said the highest number of SMS had been received from Punjab.

He said the Election Commission in collaboration with Nadra and mobile companies launched the world’s biggest short message service (SMS) for 83.2 million Pakistani voters and received an overwhelming response from people.

He said that a total of 1,679,535 votes had been verified through SMS service and Nadra received 854,024 SMS from Punjab; 421,247 from Sindh; 244,785 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; 95,735 from Balochistan; 18,945 from Fata; and 44,799 from Islamabad.
