‘Karo-Kari bill will prevent honour killings’

PESHAWAR, July 27 2005: Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Ijaz-ul-Haq on Tuesday (July 26) said the bill on Karo Kari would help prevent honour killing in the country.

Speaking at a seminar organised by Ministry of Women Development on new laws on honour killing and local government here, he said that Islam did not permit honour killing and fully guarantee women’s rights.

He observed that the reaction to the honour killing bill, recently passed by parliament, was severe in rural Sindh as such incidents occurred in large number there.

He said that superintendent of police would now investigate the cases of honour killing instead of low-grade police officials in the police stations.
