‘Bol’ will revive film industry, says Manzar

CHAKWAL: The film industry has collapsed due to undemocratic culture continuing for the last 64 years in the country.

This was stated by renowned actor Manzar Sehbai, who played the main role in the film ‘Bol’, during a reception hosted in his honour at the local press club on Saturday.

He said that he had been living in Germany for the last 35 years and had come to the country to play the role. He was confident that ‘Bol’ would bring spectators back to cinemas and the industry would revive through it.

“Four martial laws have crippled the film industry. ‘Bol’ will not only revive cinema, but also has provided oxygen to the dying film industry,” he said.

Manzar added that initially the Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah was selected to play the role of Hakeem Shafaat who was later dropped due to certain reasons. PFUJ leader CR Shamsi, who was the chief guest, said that the film ‘Bol’ had a clear-cut message that people should rise against highhandedness, lawlessness, cruelty, injustice, violence and anti-social activities. Prof Hamidullah Hashmi lauded Manzar Sehbai, saying ‘Bol’ had highlighted the problems of the family of a common man.

The function was presided over by renowned scholar Prof Hamidullah Hashmi. Qamar Iqbal Sufi, Prof Muhammad Khan Hastal, Khawaja Danial Saleem, Zulfiqar Mir, Khawaja Babar Saleem, Munawar Aziz and Babu Ulfat Hussain also spoke. Later, Manzar Sehbai was awarded the biggest award of Chakwal — Dhan Chorasi.
