Woman shot dead, husband injured

LARKANA: Armed men shot dead a woman in her house in Mirokhan on Friday while her husband was injured in another attack.

The couple had been living in hiding since their court marriage in April against the consent of the family of the woman. Shahnaz alias Marvi was killed by unidentified armed men in her rented house in Yousuf colony of Mirokhan, said the SHO Mulazim Abbasi.

She was identified from a Nikahnama found in her purse, which revealed that she was the daughter of Mohammed Nawaz Thaheem, resident of Nadir Shah Para of Ratodero, the SHO said.

The body, due to non-availability of a lady doctor at Mirokhan hospital, was taken to a Shahdadkot hospital for post-mortem. Later, it was again taken to Mirokhan hospital where it remained unclaimed till late Friday evening.

Meanwhile, three motorcyclists chased her husband More Shah while he was going to Ratodero on a motorcycle. They opened fire on him and attacked him with daggers and knives when he stopped.

On his cries, people from nearby Totani village informed police who saved him and arrested one of the attackers, Mohammad Rafiq Thaheem. The injured More Shah was taken to Ratodero where police took him into custody in the kidnapping case of Shahnaz lodged by her father.

Later, More Shah was taken to Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, where X-rays of his skull was taken.

Talking to journalists in the CMCH, he alleged that Marvi’s brothers Ashiq, Mashooq and Sikandar and their friend Rafiq had killed his wife and injured him. He would lodge an FIR against them, he said.

Since their marriage, he said, he and his wife had been hiding in different parts of Sindh and Balochistan to save their lives.

A few days ago, he had obtained a house on rent in Mirokhan and was living there. He suspected that his friend, A.G Gadehi, who had stayed in his house on Thursday night, might have informed the brothers of Marvi about their whereabouts.
