Technology to fight file culture

Private sector organisations are making the best use of computer technology, smartly addressing customer complaints, but government offices still carry out work manually.

All records are maintained in large registers and files. Office rooms are filled with large bales of files.

Most of them are even getting mouldy. Instead of providing computers to government offices, officials resist working on them. It is common knowledge that it takes much time to work manually whereas the same task can be done within minutes on a computer. As a result, people face difficulties in terms of registering public grievances.

All public sector departments like the Water and Power Development Authority, Pakistan Railways, Pakistan Post, and the police do official work manually. The relevant authorities should ensure that all official work in government organisations is computerised.
