Supreme Court orders arrest of Ayaz Niazi’s recruiters

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday expressed anger over bouncing of recovery cheques in the National Insurance Company Ltd (NICL) scandal case and ordered arrest of those responsible for appointment of former head of NICL, Ayaz Niazi.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the NICL scandal case.Director Legal, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) told the court they got a cheque for Rs420 million, which bounced. He said a case had been registered in this regard.

The court asked the DG FIA to submit written reply about the recoveries today (Thursday).Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry in his remarks said it was also the duty of the court to recover the embezzled money. He said Waqar Haider had been appointed Director FIA Lahore. He said Waqar Haider would do nothing, and it was obvious why he would not do anything.

Justice Jawwad S Khawaja said some influential person was protecting the responsible persons.Director Legal, FIA, Azam Khan told the court that Mohsin Habib Warraich had been blacklisted, and would be arrested. Secretary Trade told the court that recovery of Rs1 billion had been made in Karachi. The chief justice said it was an old story.
