Sherry Rehman receives ‘The Freedom Award’

KARACHI: Former federal minister for information and broadcasting Ms Sherry Rehman was presented ‘The Freedom Award’ by all office-bearers, representing all television channels at the launching and opening of the office for the Association of Television Journalists here.

During the ceremony, her services for journalism and media freedom were lauded. On the occasion, Ms Sherry Rehman said she believed all party members and officials of the PPP believed firmly in media freedom and would always uphold the sanctity of the institutions held so dear by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. She said it was time to move on, put aside all differences and work to unite the party and all democratic forces, as the country and government faced unprecedented challenges.

Ms Rehman appreciated the role of working journalists and urged them to train for better working ethics and responsible journalism. She said she had proposed the establishment of a Journalist Victim Fund to the government, and hoped it would come through soon.
