Seven more killed in Karachi

KARACHI: Seven people, including two Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activists and a Pakistan Sunni Tehreek (PST) worker, were killed in separate acts of violence here on Tuesday.

An owner of a printing press also affiliated with MQM was shot dead inside his shop at KMC Market, Nazimabad No 2 within the limits of Gulbahar police station.

SHO Shaukat Raza said that two unidentified armed pillion riders opened indiscriminate fire at Khass printing press. Resultantly, the owner o f the shop, 32-year-old Rehan Khan, son of Khalilur Rehman, sustained multiple bullet injuries and was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for treatment where doctors pronounced him dead. The deceased was the father of one child and lived in Gujjar Nullah area.

Meanwhile, another activist of MQM was killed at Gurumandir roundabout within the jurisdiction of Jamshed Quarters police station. An official said that the deceased, Muhammad Siddiq, 40, son of Allah Rakha, was going somewhere in his vehicle. When he reached the Gurumandir roundabout, armed culprits shot him dead and escaped. The body was brought to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for a postmortem. Siddiq was the active worker of MQM Unit-56 and resident of the same area. The deceased was the father of four children and worked as transporter.

Separately, an activist of PST was gunned down near his house at Usmania Colony within the limits of Jamshed Quarters police station.

According to police, the deceased Zahid Qadri, 33, son of Irshad Qadri, was shot dead by unidentified pillion riders while he was sitting outside his house. The body was shifted to CHK for medico-legal formalities. The deceased was the resident of the same area.

Moreover, a man was shot dead at Bacha Khan Bridge Banaras area within the precincts of Pirabad police station. SHO Ashfaq Baloch said that an armed man reached near Al-Watan hotel by walking and opened indiscriminate fire on Liaquat, 38, son of Ameer; resultantly, he received three fatal bullet wounds and died at the spot. The body was shifted to ASH for medico-legal formalities. The SHO added that deceased was the father of three children and resided in the same area. He said that the victim was killed over a tribal dispute.

Besides, a motorist was killed while offering resistance during a robbery bid at Azam Basti, Mehmoodabad, within the limits of Mehmoodabad police station.

SHO Raja Tanveer said that two unidentified armed culprits tried to snatch motorcycle from Arshad Ali, 25, son of Muhammad Ashraf, but when he offered resistance, one bandit opened fire at him. Resultantly, he received critical bullet wounds and was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment where doctors pronounced him dead. After committing the swift crime, the culprits fled away taking the snatched vehicle KFY-6317 with them. The deceased was unmarried and lived in Defence phase I.

Furthermore, a woman was found shot dead from Football Ground Pippri within the limits of Bin Qasim police station. An official said that the deceased was identified as 40-year-old Zohra Bibi, wife of Dost Muhammad. He said the motive behind the killing were yet uncertain. Further investigation was underway.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old Gul Ahmed, son of Muhammad Zaheer, was stabbed to death by an unknown person at Afghani Camp, Superhighway within the limits of Sohrab Goth police station.
