PWCCA files contempt application against PCB, Zakir

KARACHI: The counsel for Pakistan Women’s Cricket Control Association, Barrister Zafarullah Khan, on Monday filed a contempt application against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its Director Cricket Operations Zakir Khan, in the Honorable Lahore High Court under article 204 of the Constitution Contempt Ordinance 2003.

In a statement to the press on Sunday, Zakir while reacting to reports about his role in the case against PWCCA, had stated: ‘I already have an idea of what the court will say. I’m pretty sure they will put it all before the PCB to decide who they want for running the affairs of women’s cricket in the country. The board is after all the legal sole entity for handling cricket affairs in Pakistan according to PCB’s constitution and the Sports Ministry.’

PWCCA’s Counsel Barrister Zafarullah Khan prayed that it is in the knowledge of Zakir, being a senior and relevant office bearer of PCB, that there is a court case pending in the Honorable Lahore High Court since last two years and he should not pre-empt the way he did in the press statement. It was further prayed that it is a contempt of court to make such an statement published in a newspaper, expressing an opinion on the merits of the case. The next date of the case hearing has been set for Thursday, Nov 19.
