Punjab University, PTCL sign MoU

LAHORE: At a simple and impressive ceremony, a memorandum of understanding was inked between the Punjab University (PU) and the PTCL Limited here on Monday, which would open up new vistas of mutual co-operation and collaboration for promoting academic and research pursuits in the country.

On behalf of the PU, Director Planning & Development Tariq Majeed Qureshi and Senior Executive Vice-President PTCL Tariq Salman, signed the MoU. Speaking on the occasion, PU vice chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran briefly informed the visiting PTCL delegation about the different ongoing academic, research and developmental activities as well as the enviable role and contribution being rendered by the Pu in these fields at the national and provincial levels.

He also expressed the hope that the newly signed MoU would help step up co-operative activities between both the parties to advance a mutually beneficial business relationship and to successfully grow each other’s business on modern lines. PU Treasurer Amjad Saleemi and Director External Linkages Maria Maldonado were also present on the occasion.

Separately, PU vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran has stated that the Punjab University is playing a key role in imparting higher education to women because female education is must for a sustained and balanced advancement of the country. He was addressing participants of a walk organised by the Gender Studies Department in connection with the celebration of International Women Day on the New Campus on Monday.

Later, Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran along with Principal Law College Shazia Noreen Qureshi visited 50 colourful stalls set up as part of the Women Day Gala within the premises of the Gender Studies Department. The vice-chancellor took a round of various stalls and evinced keen interest in the products such as ladies garments, artificial jewellery, handmade lady bags, embroidery and decoration pieces, displayed by them.

The stalls were set up by the Punjab Institute of Mental Health, Women Prisoners of Adiala Jail, Independent Women Jail Multan, Smeda, Fountain House, Aurat Foundation, Industrial Homes and Sanatzars of Social Welfare Directorate and Girls Students of the Gender Studies Department.

Earlier, Professor Dr Samar Fatima, Director IER Professor Dr Mumtaz Akhtar, lecturers Raana Malik, Faiza Nadia, Farhat Luqman and President Academic Staff Association Professor Dr Mehr Saeed Akhtar along with a large number female students and faculty members participated in the walk regarding the International Women Day, which started from the Gender Studies Department and terminated in front of the Vice Chancellor’s Office.
