Press club incident: SP transferred

LAHORE- The Punjab government agreed to transfer SP Cantonment Jawad Dogar and initiate inquiry against Magistrate Usman Ghani and the SHO Civil Lines for their roles in the incident within Lahore Press Club relating to the arrest of traders’ leader Umer Sailya on July 10.

Punjab information and Culture Secretary Kamran Lashari told that a delegation of Punjab Union of Journalists and Lahore Press Club office-bearers met Chief Secretary Hafeez Akhtar Randhawa and other senior government officials and demanded action against the concerned officials.

The Punjab government agreed to transfer the SP and initiate inquiry against the magistrate and SHO Abbas Shah, which would be completed within two weeks. On the acceptance of demands, journalists called off their planned demonstration. Those present at the meeting were the home secretary, the secretary Information and Culture, the deputy commissioner and the DG Public Relations Punjab.
