Police inaction blamed for kidnapping of women

HYDERABAD, May 05 2006: The Sindhiani Tehrik, women’s wing of Awami Tehrik, has condemned inhuman and barbaric treatment meted out to two women with the alleged connivance of Ghotki and Rahim Yar Khan Police. They demanded that the accused should be arrested and prosecuted by an anti-terrorist court.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club, Sindhiani Tehrik president Nazeer Qureshi, general secretary Zahida Shaikh and Subhani Dahiri, Bakhtawar Khaskheli appealed to the Supreme Court and Sindh High Court to take notice of the matter. They requested that the judiciary to take victims Bakhat Bibi and her husband under their protection as the Peshawar High Court had recently done in the case of Shabnum and Mohammad Rafique.

They said that Ghotki and Rahim Yar Khan Police had acted as accomplices of a terror gang in attacks on innocent people. They criticised Sindh and Punjab governments for their failure to act against the gang of terrorists. They demanded that the responsible officers of Ghotki and Rahim Yar Khan Districts should be suspended for not taking action against armed men who later kidnapped two women in retaliation. They blamed the home minister of Sindh for the failure of police force and demanded his replacement.
