Police accused of torturing labourer

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Feb 28: A laborer who has been kept in illegal detention for three days was beaten up and tortured inhumanly by the investigation police, a doctor who examined the victim at a hospital in Naushahro Feroze said.

Dr Mohammad Ibrahim Memon said the poor laborer was tortured ‘inhumanly’.

Dr Memon said that Soomar Kalhoro, a resident of Abran village was thrown outside the hospitalÂ’s courtyard in an unconscious state.

When he regained consciousness, his relatives were informed who went to the Naushahro Feroze police station and brought a letter for his treatment and after a medical check-up it was found that petrol and red chillies were used as means of torture.

The doctor said that due to the critical condition of the victim–as he had injuries on head, legs, arms, backside, knees and all over his body–he was referred to the NMC hospital in Nawabshah.

When Naushahro Feroze police was contacted, WHC Aijaz Khoso said that the letter for treatment was issued to Soomar Kalhoro as he was severely injured.

The WHC said that later he had came to know that the injured was wanted and arrested by the DSP of Bhirya town, Sultan Ahmed Chandio, who was dealing a theft case and the injured was one of the unidentified thieves in the case.
