PESHAWAR, Feb 6: A local English daily has received a threatening letter asking its staff to “correct themselves” within five days, otherwise they will be blown up.

A senior staffer of the newspaper, The Frontier Times, told Dawn that an envelope containing the one-page letter was thrown inside the office, located in Gulbahar, on Feb 4.

He said the matter had been brought into the notice of provincial Minister for Information Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gillani and other officials of the information department.

“On the minister’s initiative the home secretary had asked the officials concerned for provision of security to us, but no one has so far contacted us in this regard,” he said.

He said the letter, apparently from the Markazi Tehrik Taliban Sararogha, had asked the newspaper staff to avoid unlawful things and business in the name of journalism, otherwise they would be blown up.

He said the newspaper had never published stories damaging any group or person and that printing of advertisements was a compulsion of all the papers.

Answering a question, he said none of the staff members had any enmity or personal dispute with anyone.
