People urged to boycott Danish products

Thousands of activists and supporters of various religious parties and organisations took out a protest rally on Sunday to condemn the publication of blasphemous caricatures of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) in Danish newspapers.

The charged participants of Tahafuz-e-Namoos-e-Risalat (protection of the sanctity of Prophet Muhammad) rally, which started from Qauid-e-AzamÂ’s mausoleum and marched up to Sea Breeze Plaza on M.A. Jinah Road, shouted slogans against the Danish government and also burnt the Danish flag.

The rally, organised by Jamat-e-Islami, was participated in by various religious organisations, including Jamiat-e-Ulema Pakistan, Jamiat Ahle-Hadith, Jamiat Ittehad Ulema, Pakistan Islami Tehrik, Shabab-e-Milli, Islami Jamiat Talba and Jamiat Talba Arabia.

Addressing the participants, the leaders of religious organisations demanded of the government to immediately cut off diplomatic ties with Denmark and urged the people to boycott Danish products in protest.

“This big procession by the people of Karachi has proved that Muslims are ready to sacrifice their everything for the sake of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH),” said Naib Amir, Jamat-e-Islami, Prof. Ghafoor Ahmed.

He condemned President Musharraf-led interim government for remaining a “silent spectator” during the entire episode. The JIÂ’s veteran leader also condemned the US attacks on Pakistan’s tribal areas that claimed the lives of several countrymen and accused the president of toeing US policies against the wishes of the people of Pakistan.

Criticising the newly-elected parties for not taking up this important public matter in their agenda, he warned them of strong public reaction if they did not take appropriate steps in this regard.

Condemning Israeli aggression and killing of innocent Palestinians, Prof. Ghafoor Ahmed said that the US and its allies had waged war against the Ummah on the pretext of terrorism.

The JI Naib Amir was also critical of PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari’s reported statement on Kashmir, saying that his views were not only against the Pakistan’s principled stand on the issue but also contrary to the aspirations of the PPP founding leader Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and late chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

Maulana Asadullah Bhutto, also speaking on the occasion, demanded immediate suspension of diplomatic ties with the Danish government.

MMA’s former MPA Nasarullah Shajee condemned the rulers of Muslim countries for remaining silent against Denmark and western countries on the blasphemous caricature issue. He said that devoted Muslims would continue struggling for the protection of the sanctity of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

JI Karachi Amir Mohammad Hussain Mehanti said that the US and western countries were hatching conspiracies against the Ummah and urged the Muslims to forge unity in their rank and file to foil such nefarious plans.

PIT’s Allama Nazeer Abbas Naqvi, JUP’s Ghulam Ghous Sabir, Jamiat Ahle Hadith leaders Yousuf Qasoori and Afzal Sardar and Qari Zameer Akhtar of Jamiat Ittehad-e-Ulema also condemned the publication of blasphemous caricatures and urged the Muslim Ummah to forge unity. They also criticised the Organization of Islamic Countries and rulers of Muslim states for not raising their voice against the publication of blasphemous caricatures of the Prophet (PBUH).
