ISLAMABAD –  Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (PEMRA) has started the scrutiny process for granting the DTH licences.

According to PEMAR officials, seven new companies including Orient Electronics, Mag Entertainment, Skyfkix, Start Times Communications Pakistan, Vision Broadcast, Link Dot Net Pakistan and World Call Telecom have recently applied for DTH licences. PEMRA has also shortlisted nine companies including Nayatel, Parus Media and Broadcast, HB DTH, IQ Communications, Sardar Builders, Shahzad CGG, Sharif Fed Mills and Smart Sky.

The officials said that the second phase of scrutiny of new applications will be completed soon. The open bidding will be held on November 23, 2016. They said that the PEMRA scrutiny committee will ensure a transparent mechanism to complete the DTH process.

PEMRA has given the approval the process of Pakistan’s first DTH licensing in its 114th meeting in June last.

Earlier, Chairman PEMRA Absar Alam has written a letter to the heads of the state organisations to nominate their representatives to be part of the PEMRA team overseeing the process of scrutiny.

Later yesterday, PEMRA issued a show cause notice to a private TV channel over using the insulting words for government officials and Pakistan diplomats. PEMRA said that the private TV channel violated the electronic media code of conduct and did not use the time delay mechanism.  The Authority has directed the satellite TV channels to follow the section 4(2) of code of conduct and avoid passing wrong comments about the national institutions or any personality.

The Authority asked the private TV channel to submit its reply till October 27, 2016.
