The Pakistan China Institute magazine, ‘Youlin’ (Good Neighbours) was launched four months ago and a formal presentation to launch the website of the magazine was held at the office of the Pakistan China Institute (PCI).

The presentation was attended by Chinese media persons and Pakistanis associated with the production of the magazine, both of its hard copy as well as the online one. The chief guest was Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, Zhang Yingbao. The magazine is a joint collaboration between PCI and the International Cultural Exchange Association of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous region China.

Addressing the gathering, president PCI and Chairman, Editorial Board, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed said that though Pakistan and China had strong bonds of friendship, not much was known about each others culture by the people of both countries. The magazine aims to boost people to people contacts between Pakistan and China, strengthen strategic partnership and bring the people of two friendly nations together – it is a totally non-political magazine devoted to highlighting the rich cultural aspects of Pakistan and China. He thanked the chief guest and Chinese media persons for attending the event and hoped for continuing support for this very important project.

Editor Youlin, Dushka H. Sayid, an eminent educationist, also thanked the chief guest for his presence and stressed on the non-political aspect of the magazine and how it will showcase the fascinating cultural traditions of both countries, in addition to interviews with prominent personalities who are involved in preserving and upholding the same. Adding that the comprehensive website had been created so that the magazine could be disseminated widely and read by many more people to attain its objective, she thanked her colleagues for their help in bringing out the magazine, as well as the young, enthusiastic team who worked on the website.

Associate Editor, (Pakistan) Aiza Azam then gave a detailed presentation of the website and subject matter — Youlin Magazine in full, complete with photos and other content. Aiza has a Masters degree in International Relations and is currently pursuing an MPhil degree in IR from NDU and she speaks fluent Spanish! Glimpses of a programme that will soon be aired on television were also screened for viewing. Prepared by the head of the cultural wing of the PCI, Sadia Haseeb, the documentary has model/actor Adnan Malik visiting China and telling about the wonderful places and lifestyles of the country. The presentation ended with the fourth issue of beautifully produced, high quality magazine being presented to the guests.
