Nurses block traffic

FAISALABAD: Nurses of the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology (FIC) formed a human chain and blocked traffic on The Mall and Chenab Chowk for about an hour on Wednesday to protest the torture of a fellow nurse by a technician.

A hospital technician, Iqbal, had on Tuesday exchanged harsh words with Najma and then slapped on her face.

On being informed, project director Dr Riaz Ahmad formed a one-member committee and directed him to probe the incident within 24 hours.

However, nurses disagreed with the administration’s stance and demonstrated on Wednesday demanding termination of the technician.

Nurses were not ready to withdraw the blockage, but lady police constables shoved them and restored the traffic. After a few minutes, the protesting nurses again threw traffic out of gear.

Later, they dispersed peacefully when the project director issued a termination letter to the technician.
