As a shocking video showed a Frontier Constabulary (FC) trooper slapping a woman TV anchor, authorities sprang into action, filing a case against the guard and ordering an inquiry into the incident that took place in Karachi on Friday. Saima Kanwal, associated with a private news channel was doing a report on problems faced by citizens at National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) office in Karachi when an FC soldier deployed as a guard tried to stop her.

A video, that went viral on social media, shows the soldier first tried to stop the cameraman from shooting, but when Kanwal diverted the camera on him for attacking the media, he slapped her. Reports said the soldier, identified as Hassan Abbas, also resorted to firing in air and tortured the TV channel cameraman as well as driver.

The cameraman, in the video, also showed bullet castings following the guard’s firing. “Gulbahar police have registered a case against the FC personnel over charges of conducting aerial firing and assaulting modesty of the female reporter of K-21 TV channel by slapping her,” SSP Central Muqadas Hyder told the media.

Reports said FC has also filed a counter FIR. Sources said the Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has been informed about the incident, and that he has ordered an inquiry. “A complete footage of the incident has been dispatched to the minister,” an official told the media. According to Saima Kanwal said her team went to the Nadra office in Nazimabad area after receiving repeated complaints from citizens. “We have done nothing but exposed those who are misbehaving with common citizens,” she said, adding that a minor girl was also injured in the firing.
