NGOs for proper environment in jails
MULTAN: Local NGOs on Thursday while appreciating the introduction of Juvenile System Ordinance in the country in 2000 lamented about impracticability of these laws and ordinances in the system. South Punjab’s 200 NGOs regretted that there were only half a dozen probation officers in the Punjab province, three in Sindh, which has 34 & 23 districts respectively. Talking about abuse of child rights in the country, they said that these practices were not only illegal but it also scarred the future of children besides causing lasting psychological effects over them.
The NGOs expressed their concern over the lack of media interest in highlighting the violations of rights of the children. They demanded that the children in jails must be provided the proper environment not the jail confinement because it adversely affect the character building of a child.
