Nawa-i-Waqt wins PAA award

KARACHI – The Pakistan Advertising Association has announced the Best Mass Media Excellence Awards-2004. Daily Nawa-i-Waqt won the award in the newspaper category for its best performance during the year 2004.

PAA Chairman S.H. Hashmi, Award Committee Chairman Mahmood Paarekh and Vice Chairman Jamshed Qureshi announced the awards during a Press briefing held here at a local hotel Tuesday.

The excellence award in the electronic media category went to the Geo TV.

Speakers while addressing the briefing congratulated the representatives of daily Nawa-i-Waqt for its achievement. They also felicitated Ahmed Kapadia, Chief Executive, Synergy Advertising, and Wasim Bhanji, Group Area Manager, Synergy Advertising. PAA Award Committee Chairman, Mahmood Paarekh said daily Nawa-i-Waqt has been given the special excellence award for its unique performance throughout the year.

Jamshed Qureshi hailed the Nawa-i-Waqt performance terming it as remarkable. He also announced that the award distribution ceremony would be held at the end of the current month and the Federal Minister for Information, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, would be the chief guest. S. H. Hashmi lauded the services of Nawa-i-Waqt group of publications and said that the Nawa-i-Waqt deserved the award much earlier. However, he added, it is good that the paper has been judged on merit. Nawa-i-Waqt has played a key role for the freedom of press, he maintained.

Since 1984, the PAA awards are given on annual basis to the member advertising agencies to reward their creative skills and efforts. Around 270 entries were received in 11 different categories. At least 18 member advertising agencies participated in the 18th PAA Excellence Awards competition.

M. Rashid Zubairi of Iqra University, Karachi Campus, Shamim Kazmi, a well-known social figure and Zia-ul-Islam Zubairi, a journalist, were members of the jury. They observed the press ads and TV commercials to adjudge the entries.

Other awards

Paragon Advertising won three awards in the competition. Ad-Group, Bond Advertising, Evernew Concepts, Mass Advertising and Orient Advertising received two awards each while Adarts Karachi, Bigbang Communications, Publicis Pakistan and Transworld Advertising got one each. In the category of multimedia campaign, Evernew Concepts won the Grand and Super Awards for Tapal Tea “Zindagi main bhardo rang” and for Service Sales Corporation “School shoes ab ban gay hain skooz” respectively. The Paragon Advertising won Royal Award for Engro Chemical Pakistan “Merey do bazoo.”

In the category of print advertising (colour advertisements), Publicis Pakistan received Grand Award for British Airways “Buy low fly high.” Mass Advertising won Royal Award for Habib Bank Limited “ Destined to excel,” and Transworld Advertising obtained Super Award for Young Food Products “Ab aaya ketchup ka maza.” For the category of print advertising (black & white advertising), Orient Advertising grabbed Grand Award for National Bank of Pakistan “Aap ka muntakhib bank” and Synergy Advertising received Royal Award for General Traders “The little giant.”

In the category of television advertising (31-60 seconds or above), Interflow Communications attained Grand and Royal Awards for English Biscuit Mfg. “Butter puff snacks” and for Unilever Pakistan “Ponds cold cream.” While, Synergy Advertising bagged Super Award for Reckitt Benckiser “Goli fit hai.”

In the category of television advertising (15-30 seconds), Paragon Advertising received Grand Award for Al-Karam Textile Mills “Shabnam from Al-Karam.” Interflow Communication attained Royal Award for Nestle Milk-pack “Nestle Butter” and Synergy Advertising clinched Super Award for Reckit Benckiser “Seenay ki jalan.”
