Meraj Mohammad Khan to file suit against channel

Karachi: On November 15, a channel in a programme had allegedly uttered highly unwarranted, insulting and defamatory allegations against Meraj Mohammad Khan, a highly respected veteran politician of Pakistan and a founder member of the PPP, who was declared by ZA Bhutto as his political successor.

Senator (retd) Iqbal Haider, a senior advocate of the Supreme Court, had served prominent figures in the channel with a legal notice dated November 28, 2011, calling upon them to withdraw all their defamatory remarks against Meraj Mohammad Khan, offer an unqualified apology for the said broadcast and present a programme with the same prominence and duration on the lifetime struggle of Khan and/or pay jointly or severally a sum of Rs100 million as damages within 10 days of the receipt of the notice.

It is regretted, that neither the said persons of the channel have broadcast any apology or pay the amount of damages nor have they even shown the courtesy to acknowledging the said legal notice, which was served on all three of them through email and urgent mail service, on the same day of November 28.

Meraj Mohammad Khan has therefore decided to file a suit against all the three key persons of the channel in a court of competent jurisdiction for redress of his grievances and satisfaction of his claims.
