Lifting of ban on Indian TV channels demanded

KARACHI- Cable operators have urged the government to withdraw ban imposed on Indian entertainment channels or otherwise they will shutdown business in the country.

At a meeting of cable operators from Karachi, Hyderabad, Quetta, Lahore and other cities under aegis of `Terrestrial Cable TV Operators Association’ (TCTOA), the president the association, Hanif Ghani Memon said due to imposition of ban on Indian TV Channels by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority their business was largely affected.

He said operators were making payments of assorted levies for operation of TV cable but owing to government’s decision of banning Indian channels their business was on sharp decline. `Government should encourage and bolster national media to counter Indian propaganda instead of banning entertainment channels,’ he maintained adding that cable operators were in favour of continuing ban on Indian news channels.
