Kidnapped minor girl recovered
SUKKUR: A nine-year-old girl, Samreen alias Sumaya, daughter of Abdul Majeed Mahesar, who was kidnapped from Ahmedpur, Khairpur district, four months ago was dramatically recovered here on Tuesday.
The daughter of Agha Ishtiaq, assistant executive engineer, irrigation, Garhi Yasin, in a car had come to Government Agha Nizamuddin Girls College to take examination. Her mother and Sumaya were waiting for her in the car.
In the meantime, a Mahesar family had come from Ahmedpur for shopping in Sukkur and one of their boys saw the girl, recognised her and told his mother.
The boy’s mother came to the car and asked Mrs Ishtiaq about the girl.
Instead of replying her, she started shouting, which attracted area people to the spot.
Some photojournalists also reached on the spot and when they tried to take pictures, Mrs Ishtiaq attacked them and tried to snatch their cameras.
Someone informed the police about the incident and a police party, headed by sub-inspector Abdul Razzaq Awan of the “B” section police station, reached the spot and took the woman and the girl into custody.
Later, both of them were handed over to the SHO of women police station, Rukhsana Mangi.
When contacted, Ms Mangi told this correspondent that according to Agha Ishtiaq, four months ago Sumaya was brought to his home by a woman named Shammi Lolai and since then Sumaya was working at his home as a maid servant.
Informed sources said that Sumaya was kidnapped from Ahmedpur four months ago and the kidnappers had demanded Rs500,000 as ransom, but due to extreme poverty her parents were not able to pay that amount.
Sources said that the SHO of the women police station seemed to be under some influence, thus was trying to hush up the matter.
