Khyber Pakhtunkhwa delays cash distribution to journalists on KHUJ protest
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, on Tuesday, postponed scheduled “distribution of money” among a few selected journalists of provincial capital following “strong criticism” from within the journalist community. “That ceremony has been postponed after strong protest from the journalist community,” a Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) office-bearer told Daily Times, requesting not to be named.
After years of “working relations” with the Awami National Party- (ANP) led coalition government, the move strained these relations with the KhUJ leadership, which stayed away from the scheduled distribution of money. “With such money from the government, the integrity of the journalist community would seriously be harmed and that is not good omen for journalism and democracy,” said the KhUJ office-bearer.
