BALAKOT – Muzaffarabad-based Environmental Journalists Forum (EJF), formed by the city newsmen started environment protection campaign in Balakot at Shogran on August 9.

The visiting office bearers of EJF including President Khawaja Zaffar Iqbal, senior Vice-President Roshan Mughal, and Imtaiz Awan launched the campaign among the masses and tourists while planting trees at Shogran green field.

The members of EJF governing body Syed Arif Bahar, President Press Central Club, Members Tariq Naqash, Afaq Hussain Shah, Abdul Wajid Khan, Ameeruddin Mughal, Javed Chaudhry and Raja Iftikhar were also present at the occasion.

During the awareness campaign, EJF members collected the filth thrown on the green lands and its adjoining forests, and disposed it off properly.

They convinced the tourists present at the resort for the proper disposal of wastes such as empty pockets of cigarettes, biscuits, other edibles, bottles and etc, to keep the natural beauty of the site preserved.

Visitors gave an enthusiastic response to EJF activists’ call assuring all co-operation to protect the natural environment, appreciated the campaign.

It was noted by journalists at Shogran, which is Pakistan’s one of most visited tourist resort, that the visitors do not care about the written requests for not littering displayed on the walls and trees, while their reaction to verbal ones was instant and active.

During the campaign, which lasted for few hours, the journalists observed that much more would have to be done collectively to repair the damage done to environment at Shogran.
