Journalists stage token walkout
SLAMABAD: Reporters covering National Assembly proceedings on Thursday staged a token walkout from the press gallery in protest at the alleged torture of a TV channel staff by some people in Multan.
Information Minister Sherry Rehman told the House that the government would take stern action against those involved, and said several people had already been arrested. She also said the government had offered Geo TV the chance to broadcast some of its programmes, allegedly banned by the UAE government, on state-run Pakistan Television. She said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government was not responsible for the alleged ban on Geo TV programmes, and that it believed in the freedom of media.
