Journalists stage protest camp
ISLAMABAD – Journalists’ fraternity staged a sit-in to express solidarity with lawyers’ movement for the independence of judiciary here in front of the Islamabad Press Gub on Monday.
Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) organized a two-hour protest camp in which a large number of journalists, lawyers and civil society members, including PFUJ Secretary General Mazhar Abbas, President RIUJ Afzal Butt, Justice (Retd) Tariq Mehmood, J Salik and Athar Minullah, participated. The protesters were holding black flags and placards inscribed with anti-government slogans.
Tariq Mahmood saluted the role of media and said, “Murree Declaration is the true representation of the aspirations of millions of Pakistanis”. He added that the lawyers’ movement has entered into a decisive phase.
