Jamali lauds APNS role for press freedom

KARACHI, Dec 22: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has lauded the All Pakistan Newspapers Society’s vanguard role in protecting freedom of the press and expression in the country, and said that a free press was necessary for democracy.

The prime minister said this in a message on the golden jubilee celebrations of the APNS which will commence on Dec 29. Gen Pervez Musharraf will be the chief guest.

Mr Jamali was of the view that both the government and the press were partners in transforming into reality national aspirations of the people for democracy, stability, welfare and economic progress, besides safeguarding rights enshrined in the Constitution. He assured full support to the APNS in its endeavours.
