ISI, IB officials appear before Shahzad commission

LAHORE: The Judicial commission probing the murder of journalist Saleem Shahzad on Tuesday questioned senior officers of the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

After meeting of the commission at the Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry on Tuesday, the Commission’s Secretary and Federal Information Secretary Taimour Azmat, talking to the media, said that senior officers of the ISI and IB appeared before the commission and answered questions.

He said that the commission ordered them to file their written replies within 10 days. The commission would examine their written replies and form its opinion, he added. When asked if the commission was satisfied with the answers submitted by the officers, he said it was too early to say anything in this regard. To another question, he said officers of brigadier and DIG rank appeared before the commission.

He said that a summary had been moved to extend time period of the commission, adding that a lapse of time period would not affect the investigations, he said. The next meeting of the commission would be held on September 5, he added.

Justice Mian Saqib Nisar is heading the commission while other members of the commission are Chief Justice Federal Shariat Court Agha Rafiq Ahmad, Inspector General of Police, Islamabad, Binyamin, Inspector General of Police, Punjab, Javed Iqbal and PFUJ president Pervaiz Shaukat.
