Indonesian media team lauds holding of free, fair elections

ISLAMABAD (February 20 2008): Caretaker Minister for Interior Lieutenant General Hamid Nawaz Khan (Retd) has said that Pakistan is playing vital role in the global war against terrorism and the whole world including the United Nations and United States have commended its efforts to eliminate extremism.

He said this while talking to an Indonesian media delegation led by Managing Editor of Jakarta Post Ati Noor Bati, who called on him here on Tuesday. He said that Pakistan gives immense importance to its harmonised relations with Indonesia and ties and cooperation between the two countries would be boosted.

The federal minister said that the government had taken all necessary measure for holding fair, free and transparent elections in the country and the provincial governments and the law enforcing agencies were alert to handle any eventually or emergency.

He said that the overall law and order situation during the polling remained peaceful, for which law enforcing agencies deserve praise. He said that the government would not allow anyone to take law into its own hands and those who try to mar the peace and spread anarchy and unrest in the country will be dealt sternly. The members of the Indonesian delegation lauded the peaceful and fair and free polling held under the auspices of the interior ministry.
