Govt taking initiatives to empower women: Gilani
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Friday the government has taken a number of legal and financial initiatives to empower women.
The prime minister made the comments while addressing a delegation of female MPAs from Sindh, who called on him at his chamber at Parliament House.
Separately, addressing ministers and MNAs at his chamber in Parliament House, Gilani said transparent and timely disbursement of funds under the Benazir Income Support Programme had proven an effective measure in the government’s efforts to provide relief to the masses.
Gilani also held a meeting with the new finance adviser, Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, at Prime Minister’s House. The prime minister said Hafeez’s appointment would send a strong signal to investors, businessmen and traders about the government’s commitment to economic reforms, financial management and growth.
The prime minister said the economy should focus on creation of economic opportunities and employment to help improve the quality of the common man’s life.
