RAWALPINDI: Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi on Wednesday announced result of the annual Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination and the top three positions were clinched by girls.

The result was announced during a ceremony with provincial Minister for Planning and Development Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor as chief guest. It was attended by officials of the Pindi board, students, parents and academicians.

However, Wajeeha Khan was the center of attention for all who had not only clinched top position in Rawalpindi board but also got the highest marks in all Punjab boards by scoring 1022 marks in matriculation exam.

Azza Azam scored 1016 marks followed by Hafiza Hira Amjad who secured 1014 marks thus clinching second and third position, respectively while Mohammad Idrees managed to get first position among boys by getting 1011 marks.

Out of the total 111,581 students who appeared in the annual examination, 68,725 passed it and the ratio of successful candidates remained around 62 per cent – the highest in the last eight years.

Interestingly, the top position holders all represented private schools in the city while students representing government schools showed abysmal results with majority of the failures belonging to the state-run educational institutions.

On the occasion, the provincial minister said that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif would arrange a guard of honour for the students achieving outstanding positions soon while he offered his chair to the topper, Wajeeha Khan, in recognition of her brilliant success.

He added that Punjab government was doing its best to promote education and facilitate students to get enrolled in schools under Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) that provides free of cost education to the poor.
