Gilani urges media men to play role as ‘social engineers’
LAHORE: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said the media men are social engineers and the responsibility of promoting healthy journalistic values lies on their shoulders.
“Media has assumed a vital role in today’s global world as media men form public opinion in any society”, he said while talking to the senior journalists at the Prime Minister’s House here Monday. Senior journalists Asad Ullah Ghalib, Rehmat Ali Razi and Mohsin Naqvi called on the Prime Minister.
The Premier said that constructive role of the media helps in reforming societies and setting priorities for the governments, adding that his government has always welcomed constructive criticism from the media as well as political forces. Gilani urged the journalists to maintain utmost responsibility and objectivity in their appraisal of the events and commentaries as their hands are on the pulse of the nation.
The prime minister, acknowledging the role and importance of the electronic media, said that the positive aspects of the government policies must also be highlighted in the electronic media in order to promote harmony in the country.
