Freedom of press inevitable for progress: Rao
OKARA:Defence Minster, Rao Sikandar Iqbal has said that present government has given
unprecedented freedom to press in the country as it is inevitable for progress of any society.
Addressing a reception hosted by journalists at Okara Press Club hew on Saturday night, the minister said that previous regimes had done lip service in this regard but the present government proved that it believed in freedom of press.
Defence Minister said that journalism is the fourth pillar of state and its responsibilities have been increased with the promotion of information technology.
He said that journalists should pay their due role to counter the onslaught of foreign culture by discharging professional obligations.
Later, Rao Sikandar lqbal announced a grant of Rs 500,000 for the construction of Media College of Commerce and Information Technology in Okara.
