Four Meerwala case accused detained after release from jail

MULTAN, March 17 2005: four convicts in gang rape case who were released from District Jail, Dera Ghazi Khan on Wednesday evening, were detained at the Dera of Faiz Bakhsh Mastoi and police is deployed there so that they may not go to any other area.

Salim Malik, counsel for the accused, said that the Supreme Court had suspended the operation of High Court order but it did not issue orders for ‘status quo’. Jail official released four out of the five convicts as the District and Sessions Judge, Dera Ghazi Khan, had issued their release orders.

“We have released Ghulam Fareed Mastoi, Faiz Bakhsh, Ramzan Pujar and Allah Ditta but Fayyaz Hussain could not be released because he was involved in a theft case, while Abdul Khaliq Mastoi was shifted to general barrack,” Kazim Baloch, Jail Superintendent, Dera Ghazi Khan, told this correspondent.

They reached their homes late at night. However, police was already there. Mukhtar Mai has appealed to Punjab Government to detain them in the prison for 90 days so that she can pursue the case in the Supreme Court freely.
