Famine claims 3 more lives
THARPARKAR: Three more children died of malnutrition on Tuesday, taking the death toll in Thar to 234. Hunger continues to claim lives in Thar as children suffer from shortage of food and water in Mitthi and Diplo, while the relief activities in the area remain suspended. At least 122 dispensaries and basic health units (BHUs) are out of order due to unavailability of staff, whereas 30 doctors and 23 ambulances from other areas failed to access far flung areas of Thar. Poor residents are longing for food, clean drinking water and medicines. According to reports, the residents of Thar are not getting wheat announced by the Sindh government. One report said that wheat was being distributed among those who have strong political connections.
