Distribution Department and Cable Operators

By: Mariam Abbasi

Whenever I go somewhere, I always have to come across one question, which department do you work for at Geo TV?” When I reply, “Distribution department” the questions that follow are always asked in a very curious manner, “What do you distribute?” When I answer this question, it compels people to ask more questions. Although, lam writing this article for my cable operator brothers, who know the answer to this question very well, I am sure that apart from them, other people would be reading this write-up, too who do not know what a distribution department is.

Anyway, I always tell people that my job is to distribute Geo TVs signals, or transmit Geo Network’s beams, to be precise. When more explanation is sought regarding the meaning of transmission, I simply tell them that our department ascertains that Geo TV’s transmission is aired on all the cable networks. For any satellite channel, its Distribution Department is like its backbone, which also serves as a bridge between the media and the cable operators.

Now instead of making the discussion more complicated, it would be suffice to say that just like distribution is necessary, cable operators are also important for distribution. In other words, there is an indissoluble link between the media (distribution) and the cable operators. Without the collaboration of both of them, no satellite TV channel can reach the consumers. Moreover, whenever a layman tries to ask us how they can receive encrypted transmission of Geo TV on their dish antennas, we first acquire the details of their residential area.

Then we provide them with complete information about the cable operators functioning in their vicinity, and guidance and help. Now let us shed some request them to acquire a cable connection light on our distribution team. We would first from one of the operators. Apart from that, if like to introduce you to the General Manager a cable operator faces any kind of problem Sindh and Balochistan, Raffatullah Sahab, who, in receiving Geo TVs signals at any given time, the Distribution Department is responsible for fixing that problem.

Moreover, cable facility is present in every small, urban and rural areas of Pakistan. And there too, cable operators are providing the facility of nearly 50 channels to their subscribers.
