Cultural events planned to defeat extremism
HYDERABAD: A meeting of civil society activists held here on Tuesday resolved to fight extremism and fundamentalism by spreading love and fraternity through cultural events. The meeting was presided over by a group of women panellists, including Shahnaz Sheedi.
The event titled ‘Call for a secular and mystic Sindh’ was organised in the backdrop of violent attacks on Sufis, shrines and secular figures.
The participants formed a seven-member committee to bring progressive forces together and organise new study circles to effectively root out extremism and fundamentalism from society.
The committee would organise music concerts, literary sittings (mushairas), youth assemblies, women festival and dialogues among progressive people at district level across the province.
