CEC to take oath today
ISLAMABAD: The newly-appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of Pakistan, Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim, will take oath of office today (Monday, July 23). Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will administer oath to the new CEC at a ceremony to be held at the Supreme Court building.
The Election Commission had officially communicated to the Registrar Supreme Court the desire of Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim to be administered the oath of office as Chief Election Commissioner on July 20. However, on July 18, Ebrahim again intimated through a letter addressed to the Registrar, Supreme Court, that his oath-taking ceremony may be rescheduled on Monday (July 23) or any other date in the week, as may be convenient to the Chief Justice of Pakistan. The CJ, therefore, rescheduled the oath-taking ceremony.
