Canadians keen to invest in power, telecom, IT sectors

ISLAMABAD- Sensing the investor friendly policy of Pakistan government, Canadian investors have shown interest in power, telecommunication and information technology.

This was stated by Anthony Rustin and Stephane Mail Hot, whose firm is currently a joint venture partner in Southern Electric Company, an IPP located outside Lahore with a capacity of 110 megawatt.

A four member Canadian delegation called on the Finance Minister to discuss the possibilities of increasing Canadian investment in Pakistan, a press release said.

Shaukat Aziz informed the Canadian team that, due to structural, financial, economic and social reforms, Pakistan’s international credibility has improved. International financial institutions have widely acclaimed the transparent policies. The gross foreign exchange reserves have increased to over $5 billion.

He welcomed the Canadian interest in investing in Pakistan and assured them a hassle free atmosphere. He said that after liberalization of foreign exchange regime, foreign investors could repatriate profits and dividends without government intervention.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary, Economic Affairs, and officials of the Ministry of Finance.
