Balochistan Assembly seeks compensation for journalists

QUETTA: Balochistan Assembly on Wednesday urged the need for compensation to families of police personnel and journalists killed and injured in terrorist attacks.

The provincial assembly sitting started with Speaker Muhammad Aslam Bhootani in chair. No, legislation or official proceedings were made in the house and only some legislators spoke on point of order.

Soon after Fateha offered in the house for tribal elder Mir Shehk Domki killed in road mishap, journalists sitting in press gallery staged walk out to protest murder of Khuzdar Press Club’s president Muhammad Khan Sasoli by some unidentified gunmen. They staged protest at the assembly premises.

On the instructions of the Speaker Assembly, Minister for Irrigation Sardar Aslam Bhootani and Minister for Health Maulana Aainullah Shams assured protesting journalists the government was taking the issue seriously as journalists were being attacked and killed in Balochistan. They assured that they would raise voice for the rights of media persons and for their protection and security.

Later, delivering speech in the house, Sardar Aslam, Maulana Shams and others underlined the need that the government should adopt a policy of payment of compensation to families of the journalists who had been targeted by armed men.
