Awareness moot on gender discrimination

RAWALPINDI: A workshop on ‘Gender Based Governance’ was held to create awareness against gender discrimination here on Friday.

Executive District Officer (EDO), Finance and Planning, Saqib Mannan inaugurated the workshop while Director Development, Commissioner Officer, Noureen Bashir was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony.

The Speakers in their speeches expressed the satisfaction that women are being provided equal opportunities which was need of the hour.

They opined that the nation would not prosper if attention is given to only on the male segment of the society.

The speakers pointed out that women are serving meritoriously in army, police and air force while one-third seats have been allocated for women in federal and provincial parliaments adding, their performance is not less than the men.

They said that women entered to practical politics when Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah contested election against then dictator in the general elections.

The women of this age are playing a pivotal role by participating in practical politics. Like in the developed countries, we should also encourage our women in every sector and help eliminate incidents of women harassment from our society enabling women to take part in the development of the country without any fear.
