Atif Aslam heads to Europe
Atif Aslam seems to be having a marvelous year. Not only did he pick up the trophy for Best Singer (Male) at the recently concluded 16th edition of the Lux Style Awards but he also made his debut as host and performed at the ceremony.
Having released singles like ‘Pehli Dafa’ and ‘Younhi’ earlier in the year, the singer-songwriter recently lent his voice to a track that is featured on the soundtrack of Saba Qamar’s upcoming Bollywood film, Hindi Medium in which she is sharing the screen with Irrfan Khan.
The song, titled ‘Hoor’ is sung by Aslam while the music has been composed by Sachin–Jigar and the music video is choreographed by Ahmed Khan. Like most Atif Aslam songs, this one too has managed to pick up millions of views on YouTube since releasing. It is obvious that fans have taken a shine to it, a fact that is not lost on Aslam.
Speaking about the new song, Atif is quoted saying in a statement: “Hoor is a very special song. It’s close to my heart. It is also one of the biggest songs for me this year. The entire team of ‘Jeena Jeena’ has reunited for this song as well. ‘Jeena Jeena’ was well received by the audience. Sachin-Jigar have done a fabulous job with the song, and I hope the audience gives it same love that they gave to ‘Jeena Jeena’.”
None of this success can erase the fact that two separate Aslam gigs, held in the city of Karachi in as many weeks, transformed into chaotic nightmares. In one instance, female fans faced sexual harassment to the point that one was “rescued” by Aslam. At another gig, at least three people were injured and Aslam reportedly left the show midway. It cannot be stressed enough that the pop star needs to take a closer look at safety measures taken by organizers before agreeing to perform so scenarios where patriarchy and hooliganism have room to thrive can be avoided.
For now though, Atif Aslam has moved on and is heading to Europe for a series of shows that will, in all probability, showcase better measures than the ones we’ve seen right here at home.
He will begin his tour with a show in Holland and follow it up with a couple of gigs in the United Kingdom. Atif will then head to Amsterdam and will close the tour with a show in the city of Brussels.
