RAWALPINDI: Renowned stage artists and members of civil society and peace committee held a protest demonstration against the closure of Geo Super and youth channel Aag in front of Rawalpindi Arts Council on Thursday.

Renowned stage drama artist Amanullah, Asma Butt, President Civil Society Pakistan Azhar Mir and Chairman Peace Committee Pakistan Allama Izhar Bukhari and other participated in the protest demonstration.

Amanullah said that on the one side the masses are extremely tense due to price hike and unemployment while on the other the Pemra officials are using underhand tactics which are only defaming the government and due to this the gulf between the public and government is widening.

While condemning the policies of the Pemra, Izhar Bukhari said two or four persons like Dr Jabbar are enough to defame President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani. He asked the prime minister to remove Dr Jabbar with immediate effect because Dr Jabbar has left no stone unturned to vilify the present government.

While commenting on government action to ban Geo Super and Aag channels, Azhar Mir said that the government should be judicious and eschew vindictive steps. He said that the youth had been deprived of whatever little recreation they had through watching sports channel.

He further said that the facilities of games were practically none-existent in the country. He warned that if the government did not remove Dr Jabbar, members of civil society would approach courts against the steps of Dr Jabbar.

On this occasion Amanullah, Asma Butt and other artists and participants raised slogans against the shutting down of Geo Super and Aag channel and demanded their immediate restoration.
