Former provincial secretary Mir Hussain Ali said on Monday that water and environment had a profound linkage and it was a matter of concern that the rivers, streams and oceans were being polluted with waste water.

He said, “This practice is destroying marine life and we have to control the situation by using available water resources wisely”.He expressed these views during a seminar which was organised at the Bahria University at Karsaz Campus Karachi. The seminar was organised by Arch Vision, Pak Energy Review, Nizam Energy and Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB).

The World Water Day is being celebrated across the world on the directives of the United Nations and holding the seminar is part of a campaign to highlight the importance of water on earth.

The speakers said the world at large including Pakistan was facing shortage of potable water and a lot of countries were working at the water security. They said that Pakistan needed a comprehensive strategy to deal with the situation as it was an agricultural country and lands would turn infertile if the situation continued to exist.

They feared that there would be extreme shortage of fresh water till 2020.They said that having access to potable water is everyone’s basic right and one should also care about this right of others.
