APNS rejects Registration Rules 2013

ISLAMABAD: The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) has rejected the Press, Newspapers, News Agencies and Books Registration Rules 2013 framed by the Federal Information and Broadcasting Ministry wherein the Press Registrar has been given arbitrary powers to disqualify a publisher or refuse to authenticate a declaration. The APNS Executive Committee termed these rules as negation of the Registration of Newspapers Ordinance 2002, says an APNS press release.

Masood Hamid, Secretary General All Pakistan Newspapers Society announced decisions of the Executive Committee meeting held at Islamabad under the chairmanship of its President Sarmad Ali. The Executive Committee approved the annual report of the Executive Committee for the years 2012-13 and annual accounts for the year 2012.

It decided to hold the annual General Council meeting on March 30, 2013 at the APNS House, Karachi. The General Council will elect members of the Executive Committee for the years 2013-14 who will elect the new office bearers for the next term.

The members highly appreciated holding of South Asia Media Summit by the APNS and noted that the first ever Media Summit was a historic event of the Society, which was attended by a large number of media persons and media practitioners of the Saarc countries. The Executive Committee approved application for Associate-ship of M/s. Super Media Communications (Pvt.) Ltd., Islamabad and confirmed the accreditation of M/s.
