PBM distributes cheques among 1,000 displaced women

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Baitul Mal (PBM) and Ministry of Social Welfare and Special Education here on Saturday distributed cheques of Rs5,000 each among 1,000 IDPs women living in the twin cities.

The government has allocated an amount of Rs500 million for 100,000 displaced families at various relief camps, while the cheques have been distributed among 45,000 families so far, said managing director PBM Zamurrud Khan, while speaking at the cheque distribution ceremony at Al-Farabi Special Education Centre. Mr Khan said government would soon launch a scheme of giving the financial assistance of Rs25,000 to each of the IDPs families.

“The ministry and PBM have set up various centres at all the IDPs camps with a prime objective of providing education, entertainment and vocational training to these families,” he added.

He said the government had also announced separate package for disabled families and those mothers who are living with their newborns.

In this regard, the PBM will shift such families to various social welfare centres which are lying vacant due to summer vacations.

The persons with disabilities and their families would be provided medical facilities and basic needs of life at these centres.

Besides welfare programmes of women and children, the relief activities for the disabled were top priority for government and the PBM was providing them a family meal package, wheel chairs and tools for hearing impaired persons, he added.
