APNS asks govt to restore Jang Group advertisements
KARACHI: The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) has asked the government to restore advertisements for the Jang Group of Publications.
In a letter written to Federal Information Minister Qamar Kaira, the APNS said: “We would like to invite your attention to the various proclamations and announcements by the president, the prime minister and your goodself from the very inception of the present dispensation that the coalition government of the Pakistan People’s Party believes in the freedom of press and will not take any action against the media to curb its freedom.
You would appreciate that it is mandatory as per Article 19 of the Constitution to protect the freedom of expression. The press, while highlighting stories of malpractice and irregularities, performs its duty and helps the government of the day to address these issues. It should be considered as a service to the people’s right to know.”
